The Sri Lanka Tourist Board Act No 10 of 1966, requires all tour guides will need to be registered, and licensed, as a tour guide in Sri Lanka.

Using an unlicensed tour guide has a negative effect on the tour industry. So it is advisable to request proof that you are dealing with the genuine tour guide which includes drivers and chauffeur tourist guides.

If you use an illegal tour guide you will have no consumer rights.

All licensed tourist guides must wear their official badges during tours.
