Ritigala is the remains of an old forest monastery for Buddhist Monks. Situated not far from Habarana, there is a long pathway towards the mountain built from natural stone inter blocks. Only ruins of buildings, no statues, stone bridges are also along the pathway. At the end of the pathway, the centre of the forest is a virgin forest where it is protected as a Nature Reserve with restricted access.
They charge for an entrance fee more expensive for foreigners & the local visitors is cheaper. Wearing sensible walking shoes is a must here, as you under the forest canopy it gets extremely hot and humid, so take a towel with you.
