Is it dangerous as a woman to travel alone in Sri Lanka?

This is a question I normally pass to my wife, if you asked me 5 years ago I would say never travel alone as a woman in Sri Lanka, however, over the last few years they have been reports of the woman having no negative experiences like Sri Lanka has in the past. My wife and my mother-in-law have not had issues travelling by public transport.
